Dietician

What Is Dietetics?

The purpose of dietetics is to promote and prevent illness by optimising the nutrition of individuals and groups.

Dietitians provide individual-specific guidance on how to appropriately manage diets for a range of conditions, therefore assisting you to

  • improve your health and/or
  • reduce your risk of developing chronic disease.

The practice of dietetics takes into consideration all the factors that could influence your dietary behaviour and understands that everyone has individual needs.

How Can a Dietician Help?

Dietitians know how your body works and how food and drinks can help nourish you.

They are experts in providing

  • individual dietary counselling,
  • medical nutrition therapy, and
  • group dietary therapy

Dieticians are trained to translate up to date scientific evidence into practical advice to help you achieve your health goals.

Dietitians can help treat a wide range of conditions including

  • general weight loss,
  • diabetes,
  • heart disease,
  • cancer,
  • gastrointestinal disease,
  • fussy eating,
  • food allergies and intolerances,
  • disordered eating,
  • reaching health/fitness goals and
  • much more.

Avoid these Diet Problems

If you have tried the latest fad diet (raw food, paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, carb-free, 5:2, 800 cal)? Did you find the 'diet'

  • hard to sustain,
  • expensive and
  • limiting?

Did it leave you hungry and feeling restricted all the time?

Are you completely confused by whether or not you should be 'eating a banana' or using coconut oil?

In today's society, many people are claiming to be 'nutrition professionals' when they don't have any qualifications relating to health, science or medicine.

Dieticians & Patients With Diabetes

There is no one definitive cause of type 2 diabetes, however, we do know that it is strongly associated with modifiable lifestyle risk factors. Statistics show that 53% of the diabetes burden is due to overweight and obesity alone.

Despite its prevalence, type 2 diabetes is largely preventable. Maintaining a healthy weight through appropriate nutrition and exercise goes a long way in reducing your diabetes risk.

However, once type two diabetes has been contracted, there is no known cure. However, a well-designed exercise plan can help you manage your condition.

Manage Diabetes and Feel Great

Everybody benefits from exercise, but it is especially important if you have diabetes that you participate in regular exercise to keep you healthy.

The Benefits of a managed diet and exercise program include:

  • helps insulin to work better, which will improve your diabetes management
  • maintain a healthy weight
  • lower your blood pressure
  • reduce your risk of heart disease
  • reduce stress
